Back to School Shoes for Kids

As I’m shopping for my daughter’s back to school shoes, here are some key tips on what to look for to keep your kid’s feet safe and active:

  1. Avoid flip flops - schools may even have a shoe policy about flip flops and that’s because they slip off easily and can become a tripping hazard. Choose closed toe shoes or sandals with a back strap instead.

  2. Comfortable tennis shoes - great shoes will keep your child’s feet active so pick a pair of shoes that have a good cushion and doesn’t bend in half easily. Their toes should move freely inside the shoe with about a fingers width distance from the longest toe to the edge of the shoe.

  3. Socks will help shoes last longer because sweaty feet will get trapped inside the shoe making them smell to the high heavens. There are even removable insoles that can be washed like NotSocks or similar.

  4. Washable shoes - there are some shoes that can be washed by hand or a machine which will decrease bacteria and fungal build up so investing in these will keep your child’s feet healthy throughout the school year and beyond. Rothy’s and Native are ones I have personal experience with.
